Our Mission

This national campaign, USNS Harvey Milk Lives!, seeks to continue the legacy of the USNS Harvey Milk and advocate for the naming of a United States Naval vessel in honor of LGBT Civil Rights icon Harvey Milk.

Who We Are

We are the activists that led and organized the successful national campaign that resulted in the United States Postal Service honoring Harvey with a postage stamp and the United States Navy naming a ship in his honor.

The second ship in the John Lewis-class of fleet replenishment oilers was named for Harvey Milk in 2016, and christened in San Diego in 2021. That ship, USNS Harvey Milk (T-AO 206) was renamed USNS Oscar Peterson in 2025, thereby removing its dedication to LGBT Civil Rights Icon Harvey Milk.

Our Campaign

On May 22, 2014, the Harvey Milk Forever Stamp was dedicated at the White House after years of campaigning. 

Placed in service in 2023, The T-AO-206 was named the  USNS Harvey Milk in honor of activist Harvey Milk.
